Four-strong team of female creatives join forces to launch hub for artistic collaboration and support
The Creative co-LAB was intended to officially launch in April 2020 but due to Covid19 lockdowns this was not possible. We have decided to still launch the creative hub online sharing our newly developed website, current community engagement work and what there is to look forward to!
Unlike co-working spaces, this 1500m2 Creative laboratory offers 12 Business Pods/studios, shared office space, a makerspace, a workshop space, access to 4IR machinery like a CNC router, lasercutter, 3D printer and vinyl cutter, as well as access to hand tools, Wi-Fi and a design & art library.
Core to our offering is mentorship, skills development workshops supported by practical technical workshops and our vision to build sustainable and supported micro creative businesses in the City of Johannesburg. With a directorship made up of four highly educated females with a passion for the creative economy and entrepreneurship – this goal is absolutely achievable. Kim Sanssoucie, Boitumelo Mazibuko, Sphumelele Sibeko and Mariapaola McGurk have joined forces to make this Creative Laboratory achieve its objectives, become a resource and key location for creative entrepreneurs of South Africa. Kim Sanssoucie explains further ‘The Creative Co-LAB is a stimulating and strategic space which was born out of real purpose to elevate creative and cultural entrepreneurs to learn and hone essential skills in business, operations, networking and strategy. It is a deliberate multidisciplinary space for the enrichment and engagement of the local surrounding communities whilst providing the incubation and access to markets that up and coming entrepreneurs need.’
Located across the road from George Goch train station, on a main road in Benrose (1km from Jeppestown and 2km from Maboneng) with regular public transport and around the corner from the M2; The Creative co-LAB is in a location that allows for easy access.
COVID19 community engagement:
True to our word; The Creative co-LAB intends both growing the creative economy of South Africa and have a positive impact on our surrounding communities. We have partnered with the KensingtonCAN (Community Action Network) to help those in need during these difficult times. Please contact us if you would like to learn more about this initiative.
