Chumisa Ndakisa is a curator and writer based in Johannesburg and Qonce in the Eastern Cape. With an educational and professional background in film and television, her curatorial and organising experience spans across many disciplines. The premise of her curatorial and writing practice reflects on Pan-African history, religious and spiritual doctrinal politics, indigenous knowledge systems and music in all its forms.
She has worked as an independent collaborator with established art institutions, such as the Bag Factory Artist Studios, the Market Photo Workshop, record label Mushroom Hour Half Hour, production company The Bomb Shelter. Chumisa has also worked with various artists within the mediums of performance, photography, visual art and music.
Her literary works have appeared in Wits University’s Itch 17 and Goethe Institut’s African Futures anthology. She was also a participant in the Tate Modern’s 2021 Curatorial Intensive.
