For Arts, Culture and Heritage Individuals
This second window of Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) Relief Funding aims to provide short-term emergency support for those working in the creative industries who have been affected by the shutdown of venues, festivals and other events due to the COVID-19 crisis – this includes practitioners in the performing arts and heritage sectors, technicians, sound engineers, roadies as well as other support workers in the live performance industry. Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to R6 600.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
South African individuals working in the arts, culture and heritage sectors. Working individuals in the creative industries who:
- Do not have a regular salary source;
- Rely solely on their creative work as a source of income; and
- Whose income has been severely interrupted or stopped by the COVID-19 crisis.
Please note these exclusions – ie you will not qualify and may not apply if any of the following are applicable:
- Organisations, e.g. an NGO, NPI, NPC, (Pty) Ltd, etc.
- Permanent or fixed-term contract employees. These may be considered on the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme or should explore other relief interventions available to businesses and labour.
- Those who do not rely solely on the income earned from participating in art, culture and heritage activities.
- Beneficiaries of the first cycle of DSAC’s Relief Fund or its provincial counterparts, or any other government COVID-19 response support.
- Group applications (choirs, bands, etc).
- Individuals in the fields of visual arts, craft and design should apply to the Department of Small Business Development.
HOW AND WHEN TO APPLY
Via WhatsApp
- Send a WhatsApp and say ‘Hi’ to 087 153-1027. Follow the simple instructions to apply in English, isiZulu, Afrikaans, Sepedi, Tshivenda or Xitsonga.
- Apply between 19 August and 2 September 2020.
- No applications will be accepted after midnight on 2 September 2020.
Online
- You can apply online via the NAC portal. Applications in English only and you will need to register or log in to proceed.
- Apply between 17 and 31 August 2020.
- No applications will be accepted after midnight on 31 August 2020.
